Carolinas Meetup 2016 Lake Norman

The Carolinas Twific Meetup is a group of fanfiction and fandom enthusiasts from all over the country. We come from New York and Main, Illinois, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia to gather twice a year for food, fic, and fun!

We usually meet in November, in Greenville, and in April in Charlotte. Since we have started these gatherings, many of us have become friends, and come together at other times for birthdays, dinner, and just to be friends.

I call them my Fic-Sisters, because these ladies feel like family to me now.

We have started a few traditions:
I always make Twi-Sagna (Bella's lasagna)
We play Twific Jeopardy
We watch Outlander
And, we talk lots, and LOTS of fic!

This year we also played a murder mystery game based on our favorite characters.

This year there was a murderer afoot, and we found out who it was!

Aro Volturi had ambition, and the gumption to strike out for his fortune. He settled in Forks, Washington, purchased a farm, and sent for his family. By the time his wife, sister, and family arrived, he was dead.
Descended from wine makers in Italy, the Volturis did what they know, they planted grapes. A rainforest isn’t usually an ideal location for finicky grapes, but the berries are vulnerable to botrytis cinerea, a fungus that produces an ideal, sparkly ice wine.
For many years Carlisle and Esme Cullen owned and ran the successful Volturi Vineyards in Forks, Washington. Carlisle’s death a year ago came as a shock to the community. Esme hasn’t been the same, and with mounting debts, the Volturi Vineyard is up for sale.
One early spring day, a several people pass through the gates to see Esme Cullen, but one of them is a cold blooded killer.

Bella Swan – She is Esme Cullen’s best friend, and the local librarian. A lifelong resident of Forks, she is the town’s historian, and has a flare for the eccentric. She lives alone, save for her dog, Jacob, and loves crime and mystery novels. Especially the real life mystery of what happened to Carlisle Cullen last year.

Edward Masen – A young drifter and Dartmouth dropout, he wandered onto Volturi Vineyards by accident, hitchhiking through life. The Cullens took a liking to him, and moved him in to do odd jobs while he attends college and gets his life back together. He tends to the fields, among other things. This young man really is quite handy, and popular.

Esme Cullen – She hasn’t been the same since her beloved Carlisle died last year under mysterious circumstances. Alone in the world, with mounting debt, she is being forced to sell the home and business that she loves.

Dr. Alice Brandon – After suffering a nervous breakdown, this successful Los Angeles psychiatrist, and best selling, well, near best selling, author moved to the town of Forks, purchasing a few acres adjacent to Volturi Vineyards. She wants to relax, and write her next best seller. Instead she has been embroiled in gossip and drama ever since.

Jasper Whitlock – A real estate developer from New York, he speaks with a Texas accent that enhances his charisma. He arrives unannounced with plans to buy the vineyard and develop low cost housing. Hundreds of tract homes would make a killing in this area. His boss, Maria, ordered him to obtain the land, at any cost.

Emmett Hale – He is a stock broker from Manhattan, and husband to Rosalie. Emmett is trying to save his marriage and his job while traveling the country in his RV. He hopes he can save many things on this trip.

Rosalie Hale – Esme’s estranged sister from New York. She and her husband, Emmett, are traveling across country on vacation in their new RV. They’ve decided to mend fences, and visit Esme Cullen, a visit with several surprises.

Click on the link above to follow the entire game, which will post regularly, along with pictures and clues. Can you solve the murder?

Creating New Characters in Fan Fiction

One of the best aspects of fanfiction is that we can take these awesome characters, and play with them, and make them do things we want them to do. We can create new characters in our favorite fanfiction! Maybe explore an aspect of their personality that we saw in the books, and expand on that, and even discover new paths for them to travel!
Sister Cities is a TwiFic that I'm writing for NaNoWriMo 2015. It was inspired by an episode of Parks and Recreation titled, of course, Sister Cities!
Since I've been inspired by Parks and Rec, I decided to bring some of those characters into my Twi-World. I thought that having Ron Swanson as the mayor would be a little cheesy, but hopefully I've incorporated Ron's inspiration into a character, and that will give Charlie a little more mustachioed flair!
One character that we always forget in TwiFic is Lauren Mallory. Poor little Lauren was such a bitch in the books, then completely forgotten in the movies! I decided to look at her a little bit more, and it suddenly came to me: She's Donna Meagle. So our new character, fresh for Sister Cities is Lonna Mallory Meagle!
Lonna is less outright bitch and more badass bitch. She's funny and deep, with a biting sense of humor.
Of course she has a condo in Seattle!! And a secret, sexy life there! (Probably.)
There was an episode of Parks and Rec where they all ended up at Donna's family's lake house for a party, and they found out that #1) Donna's got some dollars! And #2) that her cousin is the famous Ginuwine!
Well, Lonna's family has a cabin at Lake Crescent, and it is fabulous. Her cousin is Sir Mix-a-Lot, and that actually folds in with my story nicely!
Hopefully Lonna will be much more awesome than Lauren ever was. I can't wait to bring this girl to the page in Sister Cities!

And, my favorite re-imagined Sir Mix-a-Lot song from Adult Swim: Table Be Round!

Today I'm researching Canadian slang and fun terms!

Some of these might not be accurate, or dated, but some are just fun and I'm going to make sure to pop 'em in, eh?

Twilight Ten Year Re-release with bonus content!

Yes, I'm excited about this. I can't wait to see what the new content is, and I'm so glad to see Stephenie Meyer still loving her twilight fandom.

Twilight Lexicon

Can a human sparkle? Like a vampire?

They can in my world!

In outlining and preparing my TwiFic, Sister Cities for NaNoWriMo, 2015, I wondered how I can make Edward completely human, but make him crave Bella's blood, and sparkle in the sunlight.

Don't you love it when you consider and plan, and it comes together? I know I do. Now, what I'm writing, obviously, isn't medically accurate in ANY way whatsoever. But, it will fit in with my story, and give a nod to Stephenie Meyer who created these characters for us!

I'm also lamenting why, WHY I chose to set part of the book in Canada! I've been to Canada, a few times. Ontario only, and Windsor mostly. I'm so thankful for Google and the excuse of my imagination! If you are from Canada, Saskatchewan specifically, why not volunteer to be a pre-reader, and tell me everything that I do wrong! I am completely serious! I would love the feedback from someone who knows.

Back to outlining, planning, and figuring out how to make Aro deliciously manipulative and evil with a smile!
